Journal of Social Sciences and Hospitality Industry (JSSHI)

Faculty of Hospitality Industry, Kasetsart University

1. About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Journal of Social Sciences and Hospitality Industry (JSSHI) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access, multidisciplinary academic journal published by the Faculty of Hospitality Industry, Kasetsart University. The journal is dedicated to addressing contemporary challenges, human dynamics, and future trends across applied social sciences, hospitality, tourism, and service management. JSSHI seeks to explore and analyze all dimensions of the service economy and human mobility—both positive and negative—through comprehensive multi-perspective analyses, providing a broad platform for scholarly exchange.

The primary aim of the journal is to analyze and assess the effects of hospitality, tourism, and broader social dynamics on human populations and communities globally, regionally, and locally, past and present. Papers from any discipline within the social sciences and service sectors will be considered, provided they are well-argued and deepen theoretical, conceptual, empirical, or methodological understanding.

JSSHI welcomes a diverse range of manuscript types, including traditional full-length research articles, short communications, opinion pieces, case studies, invited review articles, and applied research papers. The journal also offers opportunities to publish special issues or dedicated article collections to reflect topical developments and emerging areas of research.

Article Types

  • Full Length Articles: Comprehensive empirical or theoretical research papers presenting novel findings.

Peer Review Policy

JSSHI operates a double-anonymized peer review process, meaning that author identities are concealed from reviewers and vice versa. Every submission undergoes an initial desk assessment by the editors to determine suitability. If deemed suitable, the manuscript is sent to at least two independent expert reviewers for objective scientific evaluation. The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection rests with the journal editors.

Editors are strictly excluded from managing or making decisions on manuscripts:

  • Which they have co-authored themselves.

  • Written by family members or immediate colleagues.

  • Related to products, services, or organizations in which they hold a personal or financial interest.

Any such submissions are handled independently by an alternative editor without the involvement of the conflicted editor or their research group.

Authors may submit a formal appeal regarding an editorial decision, provided the request fulfills all procedural requirements outlined in the journal's Appeal Policy. Only one appeal per submission will be considered, and the appeal outcome is final.

Special Issues and Article Collections

The peer review process for special issues and guest-edited collections adheres to the same rigorous double-anonymized standards as regular submissions. Guest editors may manage reviewer assignments and recommend editorial decisions; however, the Editor-in-Chief / Journal Editor retains full oversight of research ethics and holds final authority over acceptance or rejection.

Open Access Policy

JSSHI is a fully Open Access journal. All published articles are made immediately and permanently free for readers worldwide to read, download, copy, distribute, and link to without subscription barriers.

2. Ethics and Publishing Policies

Ethics in Publishing

Authors must strictly adhere to international publishing ethics guidelines, ensuring authenticity, scientific rigor, and proper attribution across all submitted materials.

Submission Declaration

Submitting a manuscript to JSSHI implies that:

  • The work has not been published previously (except as a preprint, conference abstract, academic thesis, or registered report).

  • The manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  • The submission has been approved by all co-authors and by the responsible authorities at the institution where the work was carried out.

  • If accepted, the article will not be published elsewhere in the same form—in English or any other language—without written consent from the copyright holder.

All submissions are subjected to automated screening using plagiarism-detection tools prior to peer review.

Authorship Guidelines

All listed authors must have made substantial intellectual contributions to all three of the following criteria:

  1. Conception and design of the study, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data.

  2. Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.

  3. Final approval of the version to be submitted and published.

All authors share collective accountability for the integrity and accuracy of the published work.

Authors must designate a single Corresponding Author to manage all communication with the journal during the submission, peer review, and publication stages. Only the corresponding author's institutional affiliation determines eligibility for publishing agreements or discounts (where applicable).

Changes to Authorship

Authorship lists and author order must be finalized prior to submission.

  • Pre-Acceptance Changes: Any requests to add, remove, or reorder author names prior to acceptance must be submitted by the Corresponding Author using the official Authorship Change Request Form. The request must state the specific rationale and include written confirmation (email or signed letter) from all authors—including those being added or removed.

  • Post-Acceptance Restrictions: No changes to authorship (additions, deletions, or reordering) are permitted after a manuscript has been accepted.

  • Unauthorized or unapproved authorship changes may lead to immediate rejection or retraction of the published article.

Declaration of Competing Interests

All authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships with individuals or organizations that could inappropriately influence or bias their work. Potential competing interests include:

  • Employment or consultancies

  • Stock ownership or honoraria

  • Paid expert testimony or patent applications

  • Research grants or institutional funding

  • Affiliation with JSSHI as an Editor or Editorial Board Member

Authors affiliated with the journal must include the following explicit statement:

"Given their role as [AUTHOR JOURNAL ROLE TITLE], [AUTHOR NAME] had no involvement in the peer review of this article and had no access to information regarding its peer review. Full responsibility for the editorial process for this article was delegated to another journal editor."

If no competing interests exist, state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Funding Source Disclosures

Authors must explicitly disclose all financial support provided for the research or manuscript preparation. Specify grant numbers and the exact role of the funder in study design, data collection, analysis, drafting, or submission decisions.

Standard disclosure format:

Funding: This work was supported by the National Research Council of Thailand [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy]; and Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute [grant number zzzz].

If no funding was received, state:

"This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."

Declaration of Generative AI Use

Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., LLMs, writing assistants) must only be used under human control and oversight to support language editing or formatting. AI tools can never replace critical human analysis, scientific judgment, or evaluation, and cannot be listed or cited as a co-author.

Authors are fully accountable for the accuracy, sources, and originality of all AI-supported content. If AI technologies were used during manuscript preparation, authors must add a dedicated section immediately preceding the References list:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Manuscript Preparation Process
