This survey research aimed to examine the theoretical course environment that promotes cultural competence through the perception of nursing students, Prachomklao College of Nursing, Phetchaburi Province. A sample of students who attended the practicum for at least 1 year and

enrolled in the academic year 2015 was chosen by means of a purposive sampling technique from a group of 296 persons. A set of research tool was divided into 2 parts: Part 1 – the students’ general profile and Part 2 – the questionnaire on the theoretical course environment that promotes the students’ cultural competence. According to study results, the sample had a moderate level of awareness of theoretical course environment that promotes cultural competence (mean = 3.14, S.D. = .42). Meanwhile, the sample was most aware of the instructors’ provision of support for students to learn from all other persons because each of them had different context of though, belief, attitude and culture regarding the family, group, community and society (mean = 3.24, S.D. = .61). However, the topic with the lowest awareness was the instructors’ mention of cultural issues to be used in student development or student knowledge enhancement (mean = 3.00, S.D. = .54). The future study should take into account the findings of this research for developing an approach to enhance the nursing students’ cultural competency in theoretical course environment.
