Dynamics of Technology Transition, Workforce Skill Transition, and Organizational Adaptation and Their Effects on Organizational Performance in the Automotive Industry

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of technological transformation-namely manufacturing technology and automation systems, and product technology transition-on workforce skill transition, organizational adaptation, and organizational operational performance, as well as to investigate the mediating roles of these variables in the proposed relationships. The study addresses underexplored internal organizational mechanisms in the existing literature, which has predominantly focused on the direct effects of technological transformation on organizational performance, while providing limited empirical examination of the internal mechanisms through which such effects are transmitted, particularly in the automotive industry context. Data were collected from 396 personnel in the automotive industry and analyzed using descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The results indicate that the proposed model demonstrates a good fit with the empirical data, with all model fit indices meeting acceptable thresholds. Both factors, in turn, positively influence organizational operational performance and serve as mediating mechanisms through which technological transformation affects organizational performance. These findings confirm the critical role of internal organizational resources and capabilities in linking technological transformation to organizational performance.
