Abstract

This survey-based research aimed to investigate the impact of financial literacy and its components on access to credit among Muslim households in the southern border provinces of Thailand. The data were collected from 825 Muslim households using structured questionnaires, and various statistical techniques, including descriptive analysis and logistic regression, were employed to analyze the impact of financial literacy and its components on access to credit of the sampled household.

The study revealed that the sampled Muslim households in the southern border provinces possessed moderate levels of financial literacy, with relatively low scores in financial knowledge and financial attitudes. Financial literacy significantly influenced access to credit among the sampled households. Furthermore, financial knowledge and financial attitudes played crucial roles in increasing the likelihood of accessing credit among households. Additionally, factors such as education, age, and household income positively influenced credit accessibility. Specifically, increased age, higher education levels, and higher household incomes were associated with increased access to credit through formal financial institutions. However, challenges such as inadequate collateral, a history of loan defaults, inappropriate interest rate setting, and interest rates not compliant with Islamic principles significantly hindered credit accessibility for sampled households.
