A Study of Correlation, and Need for Studies in Major of Health and Welfare, and Target Industry of Thailand in Generation Y AND Z in the Westernmost Province, Bordor of Thailand

Abstract

This study aimed to study the need, and correlation for studies in major of health and welfare, and target industry of Thailand between of generation Y and Z in Mae Hong Son province. The sample of 556 people from 2 groups: 1) people in generation Y (Gen Y), who graduated with a diploma or higher. and 2) generation Z (Gen Z) are high school students in the academic year 2022. Data were collected using a questionnaire with the reliability of 0.82-0.86. The data gathered conducted between April 1, 2022 - September 30, 2022. The data analysis, using descriptive statistics, and the Chi-square test at a statistical significance level of 0.05. The results were as follows 1) the highest need for studies in major health and welfare in generation Y was Thai traditional medicine, while in generation Z was elderly care. The highest need for studies of target industry of Thailand in generation Y and Z was agriculture and biotechnology, respectively. 2) Overall generation Y and Z present a statistically significant relationship existed between study needs in health and welfare fields (χ2 = 20.03, df = 6). The significant relationship fields were Thai traditional medicine (χ2 = 8.89, df = 6), and practical nurses (χ2 = 7.99, df = 6). The overall generation Y and Z showed a significant relationship between the demand for study in major of the targeted industries (χ2 = 26.37, df = 9). The significant relationship fields were biotechnology (χ2 = 13.45, df = 9), next-generation automotive (χ2 = 6.52, df = 9), smart electronics (χ2 = 5.45, df = 9), and medical hub (χ2 = 4.18, df = 9), respectively. The University that provides an education in the border areas needs to develop the appropriate curriculum to meet future needs.
